A compelling image can capture an observer's attention, mind and body, and hold it just as capably as any speaker or newscast. Often times, an image, by its nature, is better able to engage the audience by inviting interpretation rather than the direct statement used in most speech and print. Images can create awareness and discussion even in their silence, there is an invitation to fill the open air.

If there is a meaning to the suffering of humanity, through natural disaster, human actions, or the nature of the universe; it may be possible to change our experience by questioning our perception of these events and thereby our futures. With all that can be wrong, awareness helps the individual to appreciate what is right in the own lives, and may even compel them to make active steps towards improving the lives of others.
