ideation and location



explanation: i wanted to create a real-time video manipulation of the environment directly surrounding this piece. i wanted to alter the video in a way that would make people take a second glance at both their immediate environment and the computer screen it was playing on. i also wanted to put this piece in a location that would allow viewers to interact with the piece. i decided to go further than just alter the video in an ordinary manner. i wanted to create ascii video real-time. in order to do this i needed to use a digital camera for the video source and send that into a computer and create a live video stream from it. next, i needed another computer to pick up this live video stream and convert it real-time to ascii characters and display this.
