The Roots of Africa Music Ensemble, under the direction of Arts Professor of Practice Ade Knowles, is pleased to announce its Spring concerts for 2017. The popular student Afro-Cuban percussion group returns to the EMPAC Theatre on Wednesday, May 3, at 7:00 pm for a second performance along with the student a cappella group Partial Credit, in celebration of the magic of song and Rhythm.  The concert is free and open to the public. 

The following Saturday, May 6, at 11:00 am, Roots of Africa performs in downtown Troy, at the African retail shop Nine Steps Away to Africa, 199 River St.  Kick off your weekend in 3/2 clave, enjoy Troy, and check out this unique boutique!

Olshefski’s intimate style emphasizes the beautiful complexity of relationships, and how an American family goes about healing and persevering. The film premiered at the 2017 Sundance Festival.
