The participants created a website of writing and digital photography and in the process learned web design and computer skills. The artists examined their lives as single mothers, and considered the vital but unpaid work of raising and caring for their children. Participants wrote their stories for publication on the World Wide Web, and illustrated their texts with digital photographs. The artists reside in Rensselaer County, NY, USA; many of them live in the Taylor Apartments. Some of the artists came to Troy from New York City, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The women have built communities of family members and friends to sustain them through the chaos of single parenting, financial instability and relocation. "Relocating Our Roots" assisted them in creating an on-line community to supplement those established ties. This project realized through an Art$ Grant. The Art$ Grant Program is funded through the State and Local Partnership Program of the New York State Council on the Arts and the Arts Center of the Capital Region.
