In January 2014, Lecturer in the Department of the Arts Nathan Meltz opens his solo exhibition Laborers at Southern Illinois University’s Vergette Gallery.
Laborers uses printmaking, collage, video, and sculpture to critically investigate the intersection of labor and technology. Told through images and narratives of robotic characters in technological dystopias, Laborers shows technology’s influence on the institutions of school, war, and the factory as characters struggle to escape jobs that threaten to bore, brainwash, and kill them.
