Hi Folks,

Please come see us this weekend in Schenectady for the last stop of our tour with the Subliminal History of New York State, our community singing and video project along the Erie Canal this summer. Since our stop in Troy we've traveled West through Rome, Palmyra, and Lockport, all the way west to Lily Dale. We're now back in the Capital Region, excavating the subliminal history of Vale Park, a historic park and cemetery in Schenectady that is 150 years old in 2007.

In each stop Carrie has been meeting with historians, geologists, and others with stories to tell, learning about the town, then writing stories in verse. She passes the verse off to Jesse, who writes the poems into shape note songs, an early American community singing style.

Jesse then teaches singing workshops featuring the new songs.

Meanwhile, Carrie teaches video workshops where community members learn how to use cameras and then hold a shoot where they walk around their town starting and leaving from a center point together. The footage shot will be processed through a artist-designed system called "the 13th screen."

Our stay culminates in a final presentation where the audience joins with us to sing the new shape note songs, storytelling, and a presentation of the video.

SO: Come see us. Come to our final presentation on the 21st at 7 PM, and, come learn the songs so you can sing them in the presentation at the singing workshop on the 20th at 6 PM. (Both events at the Schenectady Museum).

Hope to see you all on Friday and Saturday!
