The Mwandishi band, formally known as The Herbie Hancock Sextet, was a musical ensemble in the early 1970s that defied easy categorization. Their broad embrace of multiple musical worlds, sounds, rhythms and textures has been a source of inspiration and creativity for many musicians. Mwandishi was one of the first ensembles in the context of jazz to draw up new electronic technologies and aesthetics, particularly on their 1972 recording, Crossings, from which the Bob Gluck Trio will draw in this concert, along with some new original music.
