Screenings, performances, and open studios featuring in-progress work by Graduate Students
from RPI’s Department of the Arts

On Friday, December 13th, 2019 from 9am-1.45pm, graduate students from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute’s Department of the Arts will present their annual Open Studios at West
Hall on the RPI campus in Troy, New York. This group open studios promises visitors an
eclectic array of projects that reflect current trends in contemporary art, and will feature works
ranging from performance to interactive media. Artists employ everything from electronic music
to computer code and data visualization; from ritual and performance to poetics and moving

This open studios event represents the breadth of research and scholarship currently underway
in the Department of the Arts, which is part of the School of Humanities, Arts and Social
Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Works presented by the department’s graduate
students demonstrate the diversity of contemporary practices within the field of Electronic Arts.
Areas of interest reflected in the exhibition include: activist media; bio-art and design; electronic
and acoustic music composition, improvisation, and performance; games and simulation; media
arts history, culture and theory; new interfaces for artistic expression; perception, the senses,
behavior and interaction. (

The international roster of artists presenting work and performing includes: Leo Chang, Matthew
D. Gantt, Jeni Wightman, Jude Abu Zaineh, Mengtai Zhang, Ricardo Tovar Mateus, Van Tran
Nguyen, and Hana van der Kolk. Attached please find a PDF with additional information about

The open studio hours are Friday 9am-1:45pm, beginning with coffee and refreshments at 9.
West Hall is located at 110 8th St. Troy, New York.
