GSAS Lecture Series: International Collaboration in Games Across Education and Industry

This talk discusses the exciting new opportunities for educational exchange for Games students at GSAS at Rensselaer, and students studying games at University of Skövde in Sweden. The talk will provide inspiration for students to seek international experiences as an essential part of their education and future careers, also providing an overview of the Swedish games industry, and academic-industry collaborations and links such as the incubator Sweden Game Arena. This talk will also provide inspiration to Games faculty for ways that international collaborations can be structured, including a reflection on the University of Skövde and Worcester Polytechnic Institute “Global Game Classroom” initiative.

Martin Hagvall is Lecturer at the University of Skövde, a Game Designer, and the University liaison to Sweden Game Arena. He has worked in the field of Game & Experience Design and has spoken and lectured at numerous educational institutions and conferences in Europe and North America for more than 20 years. He has designed and developed games for clients in multiple sectors, including education, and has directly coached and supervised over 600 students making games. His expertise and passions also include areas such as Game Studies, gamification, analog games and international education. He has Master’s Degrees in Serious Games, International Relations and International Business (MBA). His work in Game Design is inspired by experiences in other fields as entrepreneur, as manager of a million-dollar business division, as a European Space Agency award-winner, and as delegate to the United Nations.
