The Isle is Full of Noises is a environmental sound installation composed by Professor Michael Century, with the assistance of Eric Miller (PhD student, Electronic Arts).  The work employs Wave Field Synthesis speaker arrays to spatialize an 8 channel sound composition.  The title, “The Isle is Full of Noises”, is taken from Shakespeare’s The Tempest.  The characters of Caliban and Miranda are foregrounded in this imaginary creation of a tropical island from the standpoint of sound, which includes poetic text, phonemic particles of language, birds, animals, and environmental sounds.
