Talk: The Emergence of Video Processing Tools: Television Becoming Unglued

During the late 1960’s and 70’s, artists and technologists designed early video tools.  In this presentation, Arts Professor Kathy High will present with accompaniment from (via Skype) Sherry Miller Hocking, co- editor and Assistant Director of the Experimental Television Center, and Dave Jones, design technologist and tool builder, examining art/science intersections and collaborations among inventors, designers, and artists creating new tools to capture and manipulate images in revolutionary ways.

One of the pioneer production groups that formed when consumer video was first introduced in the late 1960s, they produced several thousand videotapes, installations, and multimedia events -- training hundreds of video-makers in the brand new medium during their nine-plus years together.

Ade Knowles will lead Ensemble Congeros in performance at Proctors Theatre, Schenectady, New York. Song stylist Jeanine Ouderkirk and reed master Jeff Nania will once again join the Congeros in "chasing the rhythms." Salsa sensation Sensemaya will also be featured with both groups performing as part of the Proctors series, "Celebration of Rhythm."

Marcus Toftedahl and Torbjörn Svensson from the University of Skövde in Sweden will discuss their undergraduate and Masters' programs in game design, and the Sweden Game Arena.  The university currently has over 500 students studying game design in 5 bachelors' degree programs and 2 Master's programs, one in Media, Esthetics and Narration, and one in Serious Games.
