Assignment
Next Week! Full project proposal with as much detail as you can muster. This is a very important presentation in your process. Bring any code/hardware demos, drawings, recordings etc. to illustrate and provide a proof of concept. Think about what you would need to order, its cost and vendor. etc. Again, you can always modify your ideas but this should start to be as solid as possible.

components for musical devices:
http://devices.sapp.org/component/Look at links on the Arduino, and other microcontroller development and performance platforms from the resources for instrument builders page. If you are building an interface, think about what platform may be appropriate for your work. Consider ordering this interface if it is not available in the ER, or if you are going to embed the controller in what you build.
Programming Lab and Assignment:
Look at the MAX tutorials available separately from MAX/MSP online: Max/MSP 4.6.3 documentation only (10.9 MB) We will be glossing over as many tutorials as we can in the second hour of class. Continue looking at the MAX tutorial. Over the next few weeks we will move forward to MSP and jitter.

Presentation Next Week 1/6: Related Work and Practitioners (literature search):
Coming out of your "dream system" presentation and following discussion, search the web and literature for practicioners that are doing related work. This work can be related conceptually or in terms of a technical approach. Start to narrow your thoughts down to things that are feasible for you in terms of your knowledge and skills, time, budget and interests. The following week, 2/6, you will be asked to give a full presentation of your project proposal for the semester - so let this week's search inform that proposal.

Surfing: Look over the NIME 07, NIME 06, NIME 05, NIME 04 (etc.) sites and or the MAX/MSP Artists pages. Look for articles, people, and projects that interest you. In two weeks, you will present inormation about people working in the areas you are interested in pursueing so you can start looking around and doing web searches.
Presentation next week: Sketch your dream system for interactive art or a piece that you would love to do. Don't worry about technical constraints but imagine what you would do if you had more or less unlimited resources. Think about what would be most inportant in this work and why. Next week present this system in as graphic a way as you can with drawings, diagrams, sounds, images animations etc.
Programming Assignment: make a MAX/MSP interface using the mouse, keyboard and/or a commercial interface/game controller and the "hi" object. You could also realize a similar interface in any other environment you are comfortable with.
Review MAX if you are rusty..
