RESIDENCIES
The BioArt Initiative is a pioneering
program that facilitates artists working in biological art.
Residents are offered collaboration with scientists, a wide
range of biological equipment, and unique exhibition sites in
the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS).
Through the residency program artists
are exposed to the practice of science and scientific discourse
in open socio-cultural settings. Artists have an opportunity
to develop skills and discuss their work with researchers in
biology, engineering, social science, humanities, arts and architecture.
RESIDENCY PROJECTS
Sentimental Objects in
Attempts to Befriend a Virus
(A series in progress)

I propose to occupy for 5-7 days a lobby
area in the RPI Center for Biotechnology with my geodesic dome
resembling
the hepatitis C virus. During the occupancy, I will hold opportunities for
audiences to interact with and ask questions about the
series of works I have created using the formal aesthetic of the viral protein
structure as the basis for each work. With the
assistance of resident researchers, I will also explore the process of visualizing
viral proteins using proteomics, in order to better
inform the series and my artistic process.
